Public Notary
A Public Notary/Notary Public is
a public officer, usually a practicing lawyer, who
has been appointed by Statute or Commission to witness documents,
administer oaths, or perform other administrative functions of
an international nature.
To put it more simply, a Public Notary is like an “international
JP”.
What services does a Public Notary provide?
The formal duties of a Public Notary may include:
- Preparation and certification of Powers of Attorney, Wills,
Deeds, contracts and other legal documents for use in Australia
and internationally
- Attestation of documents and certification of their due
execution for use in Australia and internationally (for example
Powers of Attorney, marriage certificates and other legal
Australian documents to be used in overseas courts)
- Administering of oaths for use in Australia and
internationally
- Witnessing affidavits, statutory declarations, Powers of
Attorney, contracts and other documents
- Certification of photocopied or copy documents
- Exemplification of official documents for use
internationally
- Noting and protesting of bills of exchange
- Preparation of ships’ protests
